sunWith the summertime here, the thoughts of long motorcycle runs in the sun and the cool breeze blowing throw your hair are running rampant among motorcycle enthusiasts. You may be ready, but is your bike?

The first thing you need to do before you head out on the open road is a complete check-up. Check-ups are not only important in the cold weather months, but also anytime the climate changes.
For starters, your tires need to be thoroughly inspected. Check for signs of damage from cold weather. Notice any cracking on the tires and inspect the tread depth. Make sure you check the tire pressure and ensure it is where it should be according to the manufacturer’s specs.

Also, if your tires are to worn or cracked, you need to toss them and purchase new ones. Give your wheels an once-over as well, making sure you check for any loose spokes or rims that are bent.

Next, check your lights. Based on your winter climate, there can be condensation in the lens, or cracking that can take place when temperatures dive down into cold conditions. Also, test everything out.
Test all of your lights including turn signals, taillights, brake lights and headlamp. Don’t take any risks; replace bulbs that are no longer working or damaged.

Make sure you check your battery and fluid levels. Winter conditions can cause fluctuations in fluid levels, so make sure you are where you should be.
Always check over the brakes and other controls to ensure complete working condition. Don’t overlook your throttle and make sure it twists easily.
Go over the cables and hoses and check for any imperfections. Doing a few simple things can increase your safety and help you enjoy those long summer rides.
